Emmanuel Adebayor Finally Opens Up On His Family Issue(Must Read) English

Life is full of ups and downs, but family is supposed to be our strength aside God. Emmanuel Adebayo has received a great deal of criticism from fans, family and friends for not taking care of his family, but the Togolesse striker has finally open up on what really happened.
SEA, I have kept these stories for a long time but I think today it is worth sharing some of them with you. It’s true that family matters should be solved internally and not in public but I am doing this so that hopefully all families can learn from what happened in mine. Also keep in mind that none of this is about money.

At the age of 17, with my first wages as a footballer, I built a house for my family and made sure they are safe. As you all know, I have received the trophy of African Player of the Year in 2008. I also brought my mother on stage with me to thank her for everything. In that same year, I brought her to London for various medical check ups. When my daughter was born, we contacted my mum to inform her but she immediately hung up the phone and didn’t wanna know hear about it. Reading your recent comments, some people said my family and I should consult T.B Joshua. In 2013, I gave my mother money so she could consult him in Nigeria. She was supposed to stay for 1 week; but 2 days into her stay, I received a call saying she left. Apart from all that l also gave my mother a great amount of money to start a business of cookies and different items. Naturally, I allowed them to put my name and picture on them so they can sell more. What else can a son do in his power to support his family?

A couple years ago, I bought a house in East Lagon (Ghana) for $1.2 million. I found it normal to let my older sister, Yabo Adebayor stay in that house. I also allowed my half brother (Daniel) to stay in the same house. A few months later, I was on vacation and decided to go to that house. At my surprise, I saw many cars in the driveway. In fact, my sister decided to rent out the house without me knowing. She also kicked Daniel out of that house. Note that the house had about 15 rooms. When I called her and asked for explanation, she took about 30 minutes to abuse and insult me over the phone. I called my mother to explain the situation and she did the same as my sister. This same sister says I am ungrateful. Ask her about the car she is driving or anything she is selling today?
My brother Kola Adebayor, has now been in Germany for 25 years. He travelled back home about 4 times, at my expense. I fully cover the cost of his children’s education. When I was in Monaco, he came to me and asked for money to start a business. Only God knows how much I gave him. Where is that business today?
When our brother Peter passed away, I sent Kola a great amount of money so he could fly back home. He never showed up at the burial. And today that same brother (Kola) is telling people that I am involved in Peter’s death. How? He is the same brother who went and told inaccurate stories about our family to “The Sun” in other to take some money. They also sent a letter to my Club when I was in Madrid so I could get fired.
When I was in Monaco I thought it would be good to have a family of footballers. So I made sure my brother Rotimi gets into a football academy in France. Within a few months; out of 27 players, he stole 21 phones.
I would not say any anything about my brother Peter Adebayor because he is not here today. May his soul rest in peace.
My sister Lucia Adebayor keeps telling people that my dad told me to bring her to Europe. But what would be the purpose to bring her to Europe ? Everyone is here for a reason.
I was in Ghana when I received the news about my brother Peter being seriously ill. I drove the fastest I could to Togo in order to meet him and help. When I arrived, my mother said I could not see him and I should just give the money and she would solve everything. Only God knows how much I gave her that day. People are saying I didn’t do anything to save my brother, Peter. Am I a fool to drive 2 hours to Togo for nothing?
I organized a meeting in 2005 to solve our family issues. When I asked them about their opinion, they said I should build each family member a house and give each of them a monthly wage.
Today I am still alive and they have already shared all my goods, just in case I die.
For all these reasons, it took very long for me to set up my foundation in Africa. Every time I try to help the people in need, they had to question me and all of them thought it was a bad idea.
If I am writing this, the main purpose is not to expose my family members. I just want other African families to learn from this. Thank you.

Justice E. S. Chukwu of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, monday ordered the extradition of Emmanuel Okoyomon, former Managing Director/CEO of Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company Plc (NSPM) to the United Kingdom (UK) to face charges of corruption and money laundering.
A statement issued by the spokesman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said Okoyomon’s extradition was being sought by the UK government over his alleged role in the bribery allegation involving officials of Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) the Mint and Securency International Pty of Australia between 2006 and 2008.
Arguing against his extradition, Alex Izinyon (SAN) counsel to the accused, had challenged the jurisdiction of the court to entertain and determine the matter, saying that there was no extradition treaty between Nigeria and the UK.
According to him, Nigeria was not a party to the 1931 Extradition Treaty between it and the UK.
Izinyon further argued that the London Scheme for extradition within the Commonwealth, 2002, does not apply in Nigeria.
He urged the court to dismiss the extradition application.
However, M. S Hassan who represented the Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke, countered Izinyon’s submission.
He explained that the 1931 treaty became applicable to Nigeria in 1935 and was never repealed by any enactment, stressing that Schedule 2 under the Extradition Law provides that, “the law shall apply to all Commonwealth nations”.
Ruling on the matter, Justice Chukwu ordered that the accused, Okoyomon, be extradited within 30 days from the date of the ruling to face trial in the UK while being remanded in prison custody pending his extradition.

APC govs meet Buhari on ministerial nominees Tuesday

Governors of the All Progressives Congress are meeting with the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, in Abuja on Tuesday, NTA NEWS has learnt.

The meeting, it was gathered, would be the first to be attended by the governors jointly since the conduct of the March 28 presidential election which Buhari won.

One of the governors, who spoke on the condition of anonymity with our correspondent in Abuja on Sunday, said that the meeting would also be attended by all the APC governors-elect.

He said, “The APC governors, serving and incoming, are to meet GMB (Buhari) on Tuesday morning in Abuja to pay a courtesy call on him, formally congratulate him on his electoral victory and make input into the policy direction of the administration ahead of the May 29 inauguration of the new government.

“Ahead of the Tuesday meeting, the governors would hold a meeting on Monday evening in Abuja where we would firm up our presentation to the President-elect.”

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who said he was not aware of the meeting, however, stated that it was possible.

He said he had been busy with the work of the transition committee set up by Buhari.

Mohammed said, “Yes, the meeting is possible but I have been busy with the committee’s work.”

It was learnt that the governors might demand that they be allowed to nominate those to be appointed ministers in their states.

Apart from this, the governors are also expected to make their position known on which zone to be supported for the office of the Senate President.

It was gathered that the governors would demand that they be allowed to nominate who should become the Senate President.

Despite the fact that two of the governors contested the presidential primaries against Buhari, majority of the governors supported his candidacy.

After Buhari’s emergence as the party’s standard bearer, the governors wanted one of them as his running mate, but when the lot fell on Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), they bowed to party supremacy and supported the GMB/PYO ticket.

It was gathered that the governors felt that they should be allowed to present the next Senate President since they had not collectively got anything since the formation of the APC.

Buhari emerged from the old All Nigeria Peoples Party and the defunct Congress for Progressives Change block while Osinbajo emerged from the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria block.

The governors believed that they played a prominent role in the merger that led to the formation of the APC.

There Will Be Consequences for Corruption, Warns Osinbajo-James Emejo

Vice President-elect, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo
  •  Criminal justice system to be reformed
  • RMAFC recommended remunerations will be strictly adhered to
Vice President-elect, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Friday reiterated that the incoming administration of Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) would not condone corrupt practices adding that the administration will ensure consequences for anyone engage in sleaze.
Delivering a keynote address at “Platform Abuja”, organised by Covenant Christian Centre and themed: “Business and Governance," Osinbajo described corruption as a killer-disease which needed to be jointly defeated in the same way the dreaded Ebola Virus was taken care of.

Noting that there was a real connection between corruption and the dire situation the country has found itself, he said: “It's also important that people are made to understand that there would be consequences for corruption because what we've seen so far is that there's hardly any consequence and so people simply get away with corrupt acts.”

He said the incoming administration would make efforts to fix the criminal justice system to allow for speedier dispensation of justice, stressing that reforming the criminal justice system would require that there are consequence for every act of corruption.

Osinbajo said: "If you get away with it (corruption) often enough, it sends a message to everyone that there's no problem. And so, we need to fix that whole thinking. There has to be a penalty for corruption. People must be able to explain their source of wealth; a public servant ought to be able to explain how he is able to own fifty houses as a public servant. Somebody has to ask those questions and people have to be able to provide explanations."

“And one of the reasons why people get away with this is because of our criminal justice system. Our justice system needs to be fixed: the system is slow and it always ensures that people who have been charged with offenses are tried forever and after a while, people forget that they are on trial and those kinds of things.

"We have to fix that criminal justice system to ensure that trials are speedy and that anyone who's guilty of an offence will be punished for that offence, especially corruption-related offences. There are so many initiatives about what we need to do in that area."

Defending the need for punitive measures for law breakers further, he said: "I think it was a previous edition of the Platform where we were talking about the numbers of people in jail in Nigeria compared to the number of people in jail in other parts of the world.

"And just to take a statistic: The U.S. has 300 million people and they have 2.2 million people convicted and in jail. We have 170 million people and we have only 12,000 convicted people. Now, if you add the number of those awaiting trials, it comes to about 15,000 but the actually convicted persons are just 12,000 in this entire country. Now, we must be very well-behaved people – because it shows you that truly there is failure somewhere in our criminal justice system  – practically everyone knows someone who has stolen something."

“The truth is that the system of investigation and trial of people is wrong; people tend to emphasize that the wealthy get away with crime but the truth is everyone gets away with criminality in Nigeria. And I think there's a need for us to rejig the system so it begins to work. This is an area of great passion for me of course – the area of reform in the administration of justice.”

On cutting down on the huge cost of governance, he said one of the solutions was to strictly adhere to the provisions of law which had stipulated the remunerations of public servants as recommended by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation And Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

He added that the incoming administration would also reduce waste in public spending by looking at several other loopholes including overseas travels by public officials.

He said there would be structural reforms in the police stressing that the concept of local or community policing would be pursed, “although there may be challenges which would be dealt with.”

Asked whether the APC could have over-promised Nigerians during the election campaign in view of the current economic realities, the Vice President-elect said even if the economic realities possess a limitation to what it vowed to achieve, government's commitment and dedication to meeting its targets were critical.

Osinbajo stated further that government would create an environment that would make it possible for small businesses to thrive as well as create a one stop shop for investors to register their businesses and get approvals with ease.

He said the new government would also invest in requisite skills development so as to have a workforce that is in tune with the 21st century technological advancement as well as provide a framework to safeguard intellectual property rights.
