Upscale and Overpriced: Gwyneth Paltrow's 2014 Goop Gift Guide Has Arrived -By Raechal Leone Shewfelt

Don't get too down in the dumps about the news that the Kardashians won't have a family Christmas card this year, because another celebrity holiday tradition is alive and well: Gwyneth Paltrow's lifestyle website Goop has released its annual gift guide, filled (as always) with expensive and sometimes ridiculous items that non-celebrities are unlikely to find under the tree.
"We tried to keep as much as possible at the $100 mark, though there are some splurges on here for your nearest and dearest," the website reads. "Plus, a girl can always dream."
Of course, Paltrow, an Oscar-winning movie star, doesn't have to dream, but it's nice of her to say that for our benefit. By now, though, we've come to expect Paltrow to recommend outrageous purchases. This is the same woman who once wrote — without a hint of sarcasm, mind you — that one of the best things she'd ever done as a cook was get a wood-burning pizza oven in her garden.
Well, Paltrow delivered once again! Her picks this year include a sparkling gold juicer and other gourmet kitchen supplies, vases with price tags up to $12,000, beautiful designer garments, and overpriced objects of every sort. Even the kiddies get in on the fun!

Here (drumroll, please) are some of this year's most outrageous items:
Easy Health Angel Juicer plated in 24K gold, $4,739: Goop writes that the item's "absurd, but awesome." But can a juicer be thatawesome?
M42 polished steel watch, $1,090: In case a Fossil just isn't good enough for Dad, and you happen to have inherited a lot of money from him (or Mom).
Travel backgammon set, $550: Goop notes that the buyer is getting, "hours of entertainment in a slick little case." But the key word is "little." Why so much?!
Valentino camouflage canvas trolley, $4,545: Just because it's camo, doesn't mean it's cheap. It should, but it doesn't.
Lobmeyr Tulipmania water pitcher, $428: No, we didn't forget any decimal points, and yes, it's just a water pitcher.
Golden Goose Slide Sneakers for boys, $575: So your tween son can be better heeled than you!
Cartier's Juste Un Clau bracelet, $7,600: Because everyone has Cartier under the tree...
Esque's Diamond Thickie vase, $12,000: Even Goop admits it's "insanely expensive."
Anita Ko safety pin single earring, $1,995: Luckily, you only need one of them!
As promised, those of us who can't afford the pricier items on the list can still find a few things with a smaller price tag. Cheaper gifts in the guide include sleep masks for $22, kids' Bingo boards in French and Spanish for $16, and a bag of sea salt for $18.
So... an extravagant gold juicer or a condiment? Somehow, it's just not the same.

We’ll Beat PDP Mercilessly in 2015, Rivers APC Declares

The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that it will beat the main opposition party in the State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ruthlessly during next year’s governorship and other elections.

“We have nothing to worry about because there is no visible opposition in the State. The PDP, which has been making noise all over the place, is only blowing hot air and will be trounced at the polls next year,” Rivers APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said.

Dr. Ikanya, in a statement issued Thursday November 13, 2014 in Port Harcourt, said there was no way PDP could dislodge APC in the State during next year’s polls.
“This assurance has become necessary due to enquiries by some political observers, who are expressing surprise that APC seems not to be doing much with regard to campaigns for the 2015 gubernatorial elections at a time when PDP aspirants have pasted their posters in many parts of the State, especially the capital city of Port Harcourt. Our party members and supporters should rest assured that all is well and that Rivers APC is ever ready for the 2015 elections.”

He insisted that APC as a party is divinely positioned to win both the Rivers State governorship elections and the Presidency.

On why Rivers APC governorship aspirants have not engaged in a poster war with their PDP counterparts, Dr. Ikanya said: “Not all APC guber aspirants have been quiet. For instance, the posters of Hon. Engr. Victoria W Nyeche and the billboards of Elder Chidi Wihioka are all over the town. We do not, however, consider this necessary in view of the fact that in APC we are one cohesive, vibrant and united family, with Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as our leader.
"We encourage those interested to run for public office to consult and campaign among members of the family first to receive their blessings and once they succeed in this regard, they can then go out to educate the public about their aspirations, including through posters and billboards. At the moment, most of the aspirants are involved in what I call in-house campaigns. By next week most of them will be encouraged by the family to go out for campaigns and people will start seeing massive posters and billboards all over the place to educate all about their aspirations.”

On why the party adopted this strategy, Dr. Ikanya said it was in view of the lack of any strong opposition in the State. His words: “PDP, which was supposed to be a vibrant opposition, is now in a sorrowful state with the help of former junior minster for education, Chief Nyesom Wike, whose imposition as governorship candidate has rendered the party in the State comatose, even as the 16 other guber aspirants from the party continue to kick, thereby making the party a laughing stock
“The following statement by a political analyst underscores how Wike, former governor Peter Odili and the family of President Jonathan are helping us so much in our campaigns: ‘If Wike is allowed by the leadership of the PDP to emerge as governor of Rivers State, it will mean that for 24 years, the people of Rivers mainland would have ruled the state at the expense and great marginalisation of the other major ethnic nationalities’.”

Dr. Ikanya assured Rivers people that APC will present the best candidates for all the elective posts. “We are fully aware that Rivers people expect us to form the next government in the State and we don’t want to abuse this privilege,” he said.
The Rivers APC Chairman said: “APC has been divinely set up to address the evil, injustice and lack of equity in PDP. Based on this fact we as a party have zoned our guber slot to the South East Senatorial District. In this regard, as the government-in-waiting, we have been busy studying the report of the Research Team we commissioned to produce a blueprint on where we want to take Rivers State from 2015 to 2019”.

Jonathan leading a malfunctioning government –says Tambuwal

The polity was astir with mixed views on President Goodluck Jonathan’s elaborate declaration to seek for re-election. Leaders of the leading main opposition APC have however insisted that the timing was wrong and insensitive, given the killing of 47 students in Potiskum, Yobe State, adding that they will give President Jonathan a thorough electoral beating at the 2015 polls.

Jonathan danced on the grave of dead students, APC insists
In Benin City, the Edo State capital, the national leadership of the APC and governors of the party led by Gov Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, at a rally, faulted the second term declaration of Jonathan, saying the President danced on the graves of innocent children, who were killed by the Boko Haram sect.

Jonathan will lose Bayelsa in 2015 – Oshiomhole
On his part, Governor Oshiomhole declared that President Jonathan will lose in his Bayelsa State in 2015 and be sacked from Aso Rock for an APC President to take over.

House of Reps Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, said Jonathan was leading a malfunctioning government.

Tambuwal insisted that PDP government had failed the country, noting that Nigerians were deceived to vote President Jonathan in his first tenure, stressing that Nigerians must not vote any more based on stupid sentiments but on credibility, irrespective of the tribe of the person.

According  to Vanguard, At the well attended APC rally in Benin, former Minister of State for Works, Engr Chris Ogienwonyi and his supporters defected to the APC from the PDP.

Governor Oshiomhole, who reeled out his achievements in the last six years pooh poohed Jonathan for his comment that the PDP will capture Edo and Rivers states in 2015 and 2016.

He said: “When President Jonathan was here in September to launch the South-South rally of the PDP, he was reported as saying that Edo State will fall to PDP.

"He went on to say that Rivers will fall to PDP. Look at the word he used ‘fall.’ I want to put him on notice that Edo State is not an enemy territory to be felled by an Armed Forces and the Commander-in-Chief must not target Edo for falling. Edo will stand and march on. On the contrary, APC will defeat the President in Bayelsa State.

“APC will defeat PDP in Rivers State. APC will defeat PDP in Cross River State. APC will defeat PDP in Delta State. APC will continue to bury PDP in Edo State. What is the score card of the PDP in Edo State and in Nigeria? Failure!"

What Jennifer Lawrence Is Looking for in a Boyfriend-Taryn Ryder

Don't fart or watch reality shows? Then you probably don't stand a chance with Jennifer Lawrence when it comes to romance.
The Hunger Games star recently spoke with French magazine Madame Figaro and revealed that the type of guy for her is "one who allows her to be herself in all situations." She added, "Otherwise, you might as well stay single."
Wonder if Chris Martin fits the bill? The couple of four months split in October; however People reports that Jen may be back together with Gwyneth Paltrow's ex.

As discovered in Lawrence's sit down with Vanity Fair, the real J.Law is someone who isn't embarrassed by loud bodily functions and enjoys a good episode of The Real Housewives. Of course, we know all of this because the 24-year-old actress has embarked on a media blitz to promote The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, but if it were up to her, you would know nothing about her love of reality TV.
"I always had a very clear idea of the type of course I wanted — acting, that's all," she told the mag. "Of course, by contract, I must assure a media presence to promote my work. But if I had a choice, you wouldn't hear me express myself except in movies."

That's partly why it took Jen three days to accept the role of Katniss Everdeen.
"I realized that whatever I do, at any level, I would lose a part of my private life," she explained. "For each 'everyday' photo published, I generally spent three hours playing cat and mouse with photographers."
So don't hold your breath for any goofie J.Law selfies… the Oscar winner won't be joining Twitter or Instagram anytime soon. "All that doesn't interest me for a second!" she confessed. "I'm always hundreds of emails behind."
Guess that means we can't look to social media to keep up to date on Lawrence's relationship status.

IMG_5220.JPG
The Akwa Ibom state government has debunked reports of stampede and deaths during the opening ceremony of the ultra modern Akwa Ibom International Stadium in Uyo on Friday Nov 7. The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah who was present at the event says the report making the rounds on the internet was complete falsehood;
“Though there were cases of exhaustion and tiredness due to the massive crowd that turned out to part of the grand occasion, no death was recorded throughout the duration of the event that lasted for about for about seven hours,” he said.
