Rampaging gunmen kill 11 in Rivers -Tony John



Gunmen went on the ram­page last Sat­urday, killing 11 persons and injuring scores as they opened fire at a market in Agbo- Nchia in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The incident, which occurred in the evening, was said suspected to be cultists attack.
Daily Sun gathered that the three suspects rode on a motorbike and shot sporadically at a group of youths at the motor­cycles’ wash section of the market.
A source, who did not want to be mentioned, said, “they came into the market with a motorbike and they were about three. We thought they came to wash their motorcycle, but before we knew it, they started shooting at the people.
“Immediately after shooting, they sped off. In the end, we saw not less than 11bodies on the ground and several others with gunshot injuries. We don’t know the reason behind the ugly incident”, the source said.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmad Muhammad, confirmed the incident, but said only five persons were shot dead. Muhammad said one person had been arrested over the attack, adding that preliminary investigation revealed that it was an attack by a cult group.
“The assailants came on a motorcycle, opened fire on a motorcycles’ wash point at Agbo- Nchia Eleme and fled. Five persons lost their lives.
“Preliminary investiga­tion revealed the incident was related to cult activi­ties. One suspect is right now undergoing inter­rogation, while investiga­tion has commenced,” he said.
