The incumbent President of Nigerian Senate, Senator David Mark, has been endorsed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Benue South Senatorial District as their sole candidate for the forthcoming senatorial election in the area.
According to the Sun report, the senate president was endorsed to run once again at an event which took place in Otukpo, Benue State at the weekend.
The report informed that all the caucus members of the party from the nine local government areas that form the district were in attendance with the Zonal Chairman of the Party, Dr. Moses Ajuma as moderator.
It was gathered that all those present at the event echoed ‘Yes’ when the Deputy Speaker of Benue state House of Assembly, Dr. Steven Onmeje moved a motion adopting Mark as the sole candidate of the zone for the senatorial election.
Also Speaking at the occasion, House of Representatives member, Hon. Hassan Saleh, agreed with the decision of the people, imploring the Idoma people to ensure that Mark remains in the senate come 2015.
The caucus Chairman of the Party, Gen. Geoffrey Ejiga, and the State Chairman of the Party, Dr. Agbo Emmanuel urged the Idoma people to be wise and not throw away the opportunity it has in Mark going back to the senate.
“We need to be more nationalistic in outlook and drop narrow mindedness. It is true David Mark has stayed for 16 years but in the context of nationalistic demands, we believe the larger Nigeria is greater than any smaller Nigeria. We are looking at the constitutional inhibition that he is going to stay another four years.
“We are also saying Jonathan should run and runs without a contest. That was why the party caucus stood and endorsed him. Jonathan will run and become president. Namadi Sambo will be Vice President. Why then do we want to throw away the senate president?,” Ejiga asked.
